FAQ
1. Is Enhancer really free?
Yes, Enhancer is completely free and always will be.
We created Enhancer to supplement streaming platforms with valuable features we feel are missing. Our philosophy is simple: if the platform had built these features itself, they would have been part of the free, standard experience. Therefore, we are committed to keeping Enhancer free for everyone.
2. How does "Chatters" work?
The "Chatters" count is the number you typically see on the right (often in brackets) next to the standard Twitch viewer count.
First, it is very important to understand that this is not a "real viewer count."
This number represents the total count of unique users who are logged into a Twitch account and currently connected to that specific stream's chat room. It's important to understand that this count isn't just "active viewers" and can include:
- Logged-in users who are actively watching the stream.
- Common chat bots (like StreamElements, WZBot, Nightbot, etc.), as they are connected as users.
- Individuals who might have the stream's chat open (e.g., in a separate window or on a mobile device) but aren't actively watching the video player itself.
Where does this number come from?
This is a crucial point: We do not calculate this number ourselves. We are displaying the data directly from the official Twitch API. The API provides a specific endpoint that returns the exact count of unique accounts connected to the stream's chat.
Why is it different from the standard "Viewer" count?
You will often notice a difference between the official Twitch viewer count (on the left) and our "Chatters" count (on the right).
- The Twitch Viewer Count is Twitch's own metric. They use complex algorithms to count what they consider a "real viewer," and this system is also designed to filter out view bots. We have received reports that this number has seemed lower after Twitch announced their intensified fight against bots. It's possible (though unconfirmed) that their filtering algorithms are now also accidentally filtering some real viewers from the count.
- The Chatters Count is simply the raw number of accounts in the chat room, as reported by the API.
This comparison is one of the only methods available to external tools to get an indication of a stream's chat health. For example, a large difference between the two numbers can sometimes suggest the presence of view bots that are not logged into accounts (and therefore not connected to chat).
How accurate is this number?
The "Chatters" count is not 100% accurate as a "real viewer" metric. It can still be manipulated. For example, someone could create bot accounts that do nothing but connect to the chat to inflate this number.
However, for most channels, this number provides a solid and realistic estimation of how many logged-in users are currently connected to the stream.
